note release gets confused when pitch sonification is toggled

Description
The notes don't release properly when pitch sonification is toggled. Many notes will then play simultaneously until Tony somehow recovers.

And also when audio is toggled on/off.
You say "many notes will then play simultaneously" -- that's right, it even seems as if they're not necessarily the ones that are visible. It sounds like Tony's inventing a melody line a third above or something.
