No sound from interface on several occasions (Safari)

Description
YouTube audio DID work, so it's not just the browser. Rebooting the browser didn’t help. Then I switched on the Developer tools in Preferences > Advanced, and reloaded the page (not even rebooting the browser), and the audio started working. I did this a couple of times (only switching on Developer tools and reloading the page) and it worked every time.
Latest version of Safari.
The markers did turn red, but no audio was heard.

Not sure what caused this, but the markers now only turn red if the audioObject associated gives the signal that it is playing. Likewise it will turn green again once playback has completed (if non-looped). This should remove any ambiguity.
