Description
Dan notes that it's not obvious how to get from a project's home page to a download of its source code, particularly for projects that have a repository (and thus a .zip file download link on the repo tab) but that have not made source releases.
An additional box on the front page might do it:
<dan4dm> if a naive person wants some code, but is not au-fait with VCS browsing, they aren't gonna know to click on a word "Repository" then hunt in there for a not v prominent zip link
<dan4dm> Yes, also it's visually quite hard to find the ZIP link even if you expect there to be one
<cannam> of course it is possible to put a link straight to the repo zip in the overview text on a project...
<dan4dm> :|
<dan4dm> how about an extra box on the right-hand column like: "SOURCE CODE: [Download zip] [View the repository]"
<dan4dm> I know it's repeating functionality. Depends on how much you want to prioritise it
<cannam> then what if there are other downloads available in the Downloads tab, you don't want to make it more obvious than those...
<cannam> I guess one could have a Download box
<cannam> with
<cannam> [File Downloads] -> links to Downloads tab
<cannam> [Source Code Repository] -> links to repo tab?
<cannam> [Download Source Code] -> links to zip?
<dan4dm> oh I see. or how about: if there's a populated downloads tab, it links to that; else it links to the repo download?
