+Multirate FIR filter bank for GPUs with CUDA example code
+==========================================================
+
+This directory contains a small set of functions with a basic CUDA GPU 
+implementation of a multiple rate filter bank, to be used as a basis for 
+testing and as an example for related work. It also contains a single CPU 
+and OpenMP implementation for comparisons. A sample main program demonstrates
+the use of the functions. 
+
+The GPU code is compiled separately with CUDA to a library that can be 
+linked as normal to C/C++ objects with the standard C/C++ compiler. 
+The GPU functions are callable from C/C++ with the inclusion of the 
+header file. The current example contains a main file that calls each 
+GPU, CPU and OpenMP function with a combination of parameters, times the 
+execution and checks the result.
+
+For more details about the code application and performance please refer 
+to my report (file MR_FIR_GPU_SDReport.pdf in this directory). 
+
+COMPILATION
+------------
+To compile, you need to run on a Linux x86_64 system, and have a C++ 
+compiler, and the NVIDIA CUDA toolkit installed.
+
+Edit the Makefile to chose your NVIDIA GPU architecture and C++ compiler, 
+and put your CUDA installation path if it is non-standard. 
+
+The GPU architecture flags are given by the Makefile variable GENCODE_SMXX, 
+where XX is the device compute capability. You can find the compute 
+capability of your device at http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus
+To build the GPU FIR, cd to the code directory and run `make’.
+An executable named `filters’ will be produced. 
+
+This code is only tested with Ubuntu 14.04 and gcc 4.8.4. If you find 
+any problems building the code, you can contact me at

+USAGE
+------
+
+The main functionality of the GPU device code is to apply multiple FIR 
+filters to an input signal block in parallel. Multiple input rates are 
+processed by running the same function multiple times asynchronously 
+on different input data, using CUDA streams. 
+
+The main program accepts a set of command line arguments to setup the 
+filter parameters. Running `./filters -help’ prints the following list:
+
+Usage:
+	-nrates [n]	Number of sampling rates (default 3)
+
+	-nf [n]		Total number of filters (default 60)
+
+	-rconst		Use constant rate equal to input size (default no)
+
+	-insize [n]	Size of input block (default 1024)
+
+	-tim		Measure execution time (default yes)
+
+Example:
+
+./filters -nrates 3 -nf 88 -insize 4096
+
+will divide 88 filters in 3 sampling rates, with initial input block size 
+4096, and run the multirate filter on CPU, GPU and OpenMP. See the output 
+of this command line in file `screenshot’ in this directory.

+CONFIGURATION
+-------------
+
+File filters.h contains parameters that affect the filter configuration. 
+Please edit this file to check or modify your configuration. Parameter 
+information is found in comments in the code, but the user can also 
+generate a basic Doxygen reference documentation. 
+
+Important: The filter size is controlled by macro B_SIZE, which is used 
+directly in GPU kernels. It is recommended to keep this parameter pre-
+defined as it helps GPU performance.
