annotate vamp-hostsdk/PluginSummarisingAdapter.h @ 525:8c18bdaad04f c++11-mutex

Avoid simple static allocation of mutex, as it could lead to mutex being destroyed before last adapter that needs to use it (since adapters are usually also static)

cannam@233 52 * \class PluginSummarisingAdapter PluginSummarisingAdapter.h <vamp-hostsdk/PluginSummarisingAdapter.h>
cannam@233 53 *
cannam@248 54 * PluginSummarisingAdapter is a Vamp plugin adapter that provides
cannam@248 55 * summarisation methods such as mean and median averages of output
cannam@248 56 * features, for use in any context where an available plugin produces
cannam@248 57 * individual values but the result that is actually needed is some
cannam@248 58 * sort of aggregate.
cannam@248 59 *
cannam@248 60 * To make use of PluginSummarisingAdapter, the host should configure,
cannam@248 61 * initialise and run the plugin through the adapter interface just as
cannam@248 62 * normal. Then, after the process and getRemainingFeatures methods
cannam@248 63 * have been properly called and processing is complete, the host may
cannam@248 64 * call getSummaryForOutput or getSummaryForAllOutputs to obtain
cannam@248 65 * summarised features: averages, maximum values, etc, depending on
cannam@248 66 * the SummaryType passed to the function.
cannam@248 67 *
cannam@248 68 * By default PluginSummarisingAdapter calculates a single summary of
cannam@248 69 * each output's feature across the whole duration of processed audio.
cannam@248 70 * A host needing summaries of sub-segments of the whole audio may
cannam@248 71 * call setSummarySegmentBoundaries before retrieving the summaries,
cannam@248 72 * providing a list of times such that one summary will be provided
cannam@248 73 * for each segment between two consecutive times.
cannam@248 74 *
cannam@248 75 * PluginSummarisingAdapter is straightforward rather than fast. It
cannam@248 76 * calculates all of the summary types for all outputs always, and
cannam@248 77 * then returns only the ones that are requested. It is designed on
cannam@248 78 * the basis that, for most features, summarising and storing
cannam@248 79 * summarised results is far cheaper than calculating the results in
cannam@248 80 * the first place. If this is not true for your particular feature,
cannam@248 81 * PluginSummarisingAdapter may not be the best approach for you.

cannam@233 140 * If SampleAverage is specified, summary types based on averages
