OK, this script works now, but it should be using the API

class AddActiveFieldToEnumerations < ActiveRecord::Migration
  def self.up
    add_column :enumerations, :active, :boolean, :default => true, :null => false
  end

  def self.down
    remove_column :enumerations, :active
  end
