annotate CHANGELOG @ 2265:d33dff02b39b sandbox-notarize

Work on sandboxing (possibly) and using the hardened runtime for notarization. Supply appropriate bundle ID for helpers as well as main application, and request inherited sandbox entitlements. Currently works with sandboxing (apparently) but not yet with the hardened runtime, where we can't load plugins signed by third parties even with the com.apple.security.cs.disable-library-validation entitlement because their team IDs don't match the host. Possibly that exception is supposed to be requested some other way?

Chris@2211 4 - Add support for reading the Opus audio codec on all platforms
Chris@2211 5
Chris@2211 6 - Add support for WMA and AAC formats on 64-bit Windows. (AAC was
Chris@2211 7 already supported on macOS.) Note that AAC support on Windows does
Chris@2211 8 not support "gapless" import, i.e. removing the encoder gaps at
Chris@2211 9 start and end of the stream
Chris@2211 10
Chris@2002 11

Chris@2110 48
cannam@1948 49
cannam@1948 50 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.1.1 (Aug 2018) since the previous release 3.1:
cannam@1948 51
cannam@1948 52 - Fix failure to record correctly into an empty session with certain
cannam@1948 53 audio drivers
cannam@1948 54
Chris@1958 55 - Fix failure to run LADSPA plugins at all, except with some unusual
Chris@1958 56 path layouts
Chris@1958 57
Chris@1958 58 - Fix failure to silence sonified notes when rewinding backwards or
Chris@1958 59 jumping back from a loop endpoint
Chris@1958 60
cannam@1948 61 - Fix macOS .dmg image so as to use older HFS+ filesystem for compatibility
cannam@1948 62
Chris@1871 63
Chris@1932 64 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.1 (July 2018) since the previous release 3.0.3:
Chris@1871 65
Chris@1871 66 - Add Plugins tab to Preferences dialog, from which you can review
Chris@1871 67 the plugin load paths and see which plugins were loaded from which
Chris@1871 68 locations, and also customise load paths (though the various path
Chris@1871 69 environment variables are still supported)
Chris@1871 70
Chris@1935 71 - Stream the export of audio data and other CSV data so that
Chris@1935 72 very large exports don't hang the UI or run us out of memory
Chris@1935 73 (thanks to Lucas Thompson)
Chris@1935 74
Chris@1935 75 - Ensure vertical scale appears for auto-align layers when there is
Chris@1935 76 nothing else to auto-align them to
Chris@1935 77
Chris@1871 78 - Fix another long-standing Windows-platform wide-char/utf8
Chris@1871 79 conversion problem, with environment variable naming and contents
Chris@1871 80
Chris@1871 81 - Improve handling of incomplete session loads, i.e. situations where
Chris@1871 82 the audio files referred to by a session could not be found -
Chris@1871 83 previously the session could be re-saved immediately thus losing
Chris@1871 84 the audio reference; now at least we disable Save (enabling only
Chris@1871 85 Save As) and show a warning
Chris@1871 86
Chris@1871 87 - Update pane and layer menu shortcuts so that the
Chris@1871 88 waveform/spectrogram/etc shortcuts (Shift+G etc) operate on the
Chris@1871 89 source model in the currently-selected pane rather than the main
Chris@1871 90 model. This is a backward-incompatible change but is a far more
Chris@1871 91 intuitive way for the function to work
Chris@1871 92
Chris@1935 93 - Use dark background for bright colours in time-value/note/etc
Chris@1935 94 layers as well as e.g. waveforms - this is how it was always
Chris@1935 95 "intended to" work, but it is a backward-incompatible change
Chris@1935 96
Chris@1871 97 - Make "Select All" select the whole span of everything that exists,
Chris@1871 98 not just the main model
Chris@1871 99
Chris@1871 100 - Add horizontal scale to Spectrum layer
Chris@1871 101
Chris@1871 102 - Improve spacing and labelling of vertical log scales
Chris@1871 103
Chris@1871 104 - Update build system for better Cap'n Proto version support and to
Chris@1871 105 use Repoint for code management in the repository
Chris@1871 106
Chris@1871 107 - Various other bug fixes
Chris@1871 108
Chris@1702 109
Chris@1702 110 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.0.3 (May 2017) since the previous release 3.0.2:
Chris@1702 111
Chris@1702 112 - Improve decisions about where and how to label vertical scales
Chris@1702 113
Chris@1702 114 - Update build support material and documentation to reflect the
Chris@1702 115 official release of Cap'n Proto 0.6 (which we can now use rather
Chris@1702 116 than depending on git builds)
Chris@1702 117
Chris@1669 118
Chris@1669 119 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.0.2 (Mar 2017) since the previous release 3.0.1:
Chris@1669 120
Chris@1669 121 - Fix crash when changing parameters for spectrum view
Chris@1669 122
Chris@1669 123 - Fix incorrect measure tool crosshairs in spectrum view
Chris@1669 124
Chris@1669 125 - Update Russian and Czech UI translations (thanks to Alexandre Prokoudine
Chris@1669 126 and Pavel Fric respectively)
Chris@1702 127
Chris@1658 128
Chris@1658 129 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.0.1 (Mar 2017) since the previous release 3.0:
Chris@1658 130
Chris@1658 131 - Fix crashes with MIDI devices and speedup/slowdown control on Windows
Chris@1661 132
Chris@1658 133 - Update MIDI input driver layer
Chris@1447 134
Chris@1661 135
Chris@1624 136 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 3.0 (Mar 2017) since the previous release 2.5:
Chris@1447 137
Chris@1516 138 - Add ability to record audio, and ability to change the audio device
Chris@1516 139 for playback or recording in the preferences
Chris@1447 140
Chris@1447 141 - Add complete support for high-resolution (Hi-DPI or retina)
Chris@1511 142 displays, including for layer data rendering as well as UI controls
Chris@1511 143 and icons. This makes the biggest difference when using a retina
Chris@1511 144 Mac, on which previous versions did not render layer data at retina
Chris@1447 145 resolution, but it also improves scaling and rendering of UI
Chris@1447 146 elements on Hi-DPI displays on Windows and Linux
Chris@1447 147
Chris@1451 148 - Add ability to export scalable (SVG) image files
Chris@1451 149
Chris@1447 150 - Run plugins in a separate process, so that if a plugin crashes, it
Chris@1447 151 no longer brings down Sonic Visualiser with it. In every other
Chris@1447 152 respect the behaviour should be unchanged
Chris@1447 153
Chris@1447 154 - Scan plugins on startup in a separate process, and report on any
Chris@1447 155 that crash or won't load
Chris@1447 156
Chris@1527 157 - Add ability to open, display, and analyse very long audio files (of
Chris@1527 158 more than 2^32 sample frames)
Chris@1527 159
Chris@1447 160 - Change mp3 file loading so as to compensate for encoder/decoder
Chris@1447 161 delay and padding (using "gapless playback" logic). While this is a
Chris@1447 162 real improvement, unfortunately it does mean that the initial
Chris@1447 163 padding in mp3 file load has changed from previous versions, which
Chris@1447 164 may mean some sessions saved in previous versions are no longer
Chris@1447 165 correctly aligned. It's not a great idea to use mp3 as a file
Chris@1447 166 format of record, because of differences like this between
Chris@1447 167 decoders. The previous behaviour is still available as a preference.
Chris@1447 168
Chris@1470 169 - Add new Hybrid normalisation type for spectrogram and colour 3d
Chris@1470 170 plot layers. This normalises each column to its peak value and then
Chris@1470 171 scales the normalised values by the log of the peak in order to
Chris@1470 172 restore some distinction in scale between columns with different
Chris@1470 173 levels. It can provide quite visually clear results.
Chris@1470 174
Chris@1447 175 - Add function to subdivide time instant layers into regular
Chris@1447 176 intervals (and its inverse)
Chris@1447 177
Chris@1447 178 - Add new preference for default colour scales
Chris@1447 179
Chris@1578 180 - Add a basic ability to zoom (in the frequency axis) to the spectrum
Chris@1624 181
Chris@1447 182 - Switch to using combined level/pan controls in layer property boxes
Chris@1447 183 and for the main volume control
Chris@1447 184
Chris@1520 185 - Make CSV file reader better able to handle files with varying
Chris@1520 186 numbers of columns
Chris@1520 187
Chris@1516 188 - Fix a number of problems on Windows with loading and saving some
Chris@1516 189 file formats to filenames not representable in system codepage
Chris@1516 190
Chris@1520 191 - Add "What's New" dialog
Chris@1520 192
Chris@1527 193 - Finally switch the Windows build to 64-bit by default (with
Chris@1447 194 adapters to run either 32- or 64-bit plugins)
Chris@1451 195
Chris@1447 196
Chris@1520 197 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.5 (Oct 2015) since the previous release 2.4.1:
Chris@1072 198
Chris@1072 199 - Add unit-converter dialog, for converting between various pitch and
Chris@1072 200 timing units
Chris@1072 201
Chris@1072 202 - Fix failure to reload note layers from session file
Chris@1072 203
Chris@1072 204 - Use a more sensible scale for the play-speed dial
Chris@1072 205
Chris@1072 206 - Fix crash when importing very wide CSV files
Chris@1072 207
Chris@1072 208 - Fix generation of wrong layer type from some CSV files
Chris@1072 209
Chris@1072 210 - Fix failure to export last instant in a time-instant layer
Chris@1072 211
Chris@1457 212
Chris@1520 213 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.4.1 (Oct 2014) since the previous release 2.4:
Chris@876 214
Chris@876 215 - Fix a crash when rendering certain colour 3d plot layers
Chris@716 216
Chris@1457 217
Chris@1520 218 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.4 (Sep 2014) since the previous release 2.3:
Chris@714 219
Chris@776 220 - Add support for left/right scrolling using a two-finger touchpad
Chris@776 221 gesture (where available)
Chris@776 222
Chris@716 223 - Make the octave numbering into a configurable option, and change
Chris@716 224 the default. Previously Sonic Visualiser labelled middle-C as "C3";
Chris@716 225 now it labels middle-C as "C4", a more common standard in the world
Chris@776 226 outside MIDI sequencer software. The previous system is available
Chris@776 227 as an option in the Preferences. This affects only the visible
Chris@776 228 labels: there is no change to analysis or to the file format
Chris@714 229
Chris@714 230 - Sonify time-value layers. Any time-value curve whose scale unit is
Chris@714 231 set to Hz will now acquire a playback toggle control; this control
Chris@714 232 is off by default, but if it is switched on, the curve will be
Chris@714 233 played back using a variable-frequency sound generator
Chris@714 234
Chris@714 235 - Add support for playback of note layers with non-MIDI frequencies
Chris@714 236 (formerly the note playback was limited to exact MIDI pitch)
Chris@714 237
Chris@714 238 - Change the default playback sample for note layers from piano to an
Chris@714 239 electric piano with sustain. The piano sample is still available,
Chris@714 240 and any sessions saved using it should continue to use it
Chris@714 241
Chris@867 242 - Add a cancel button for Vamp plugin processing: currently,
Chris@867 243 cancelling a transform results in a part-complete layer rather than
Chris@867 244 removing the results
Chris@867 245
Chris@790 246 - Add keyboard shortcuts to cycle the current layer (in addition to
Chris@790 247 the existing ones to cycle the current pane)
Chris@790 248
Chris@790 249 - Fix various bugs related to layer ordering: layer tabs re-ordering
Chris@790 250 themselves randomly when new layer added, layers being ordered
Chris@791 251 randomly when saving and reloading a session
Chris@790 252
Chris@848 253 - Fix incorrect interaction with non-Unicode usernames when creating
Chris@848 254 temporary and template directories on Windows
Chris@848 255
Chris@714 256 - Shade the start and end of the main audio file, to make them easier
Chris@714 257 to see for files that start or end in silence
Chris@714 258
Chris@714 259 - Speed up rendering and scrolling in time-value layers
Chris@714 260
Chris@714 261 - Make it possible to import CSV files directly into Note layers by
Chris@714 262 adding Pitch as a data type in the CSV file import dialog
Chris@675 263
Chris@856 264 - Fix play pointer jump to wrong frame when clicking on row in the
Chris@856 265 layer edit dialog
Chris@856 266
Chris@848 267 - Fix problems with keyboard shortcuts when using Qt5 on OS/X. This
Chris@848 268 is the first release in which the official builds use Qt5 for all
Chris@848 269 platforms.
Chris@848 270
Chris@675 271
Chris@1520 272 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.3 (Dec 2013) since the previous release 2.2:
Chris@675 273
Chris@675 274 - Add a startup welcome dialog that also explains what SV makes
Chris@675 275 network connections for and allows user to forbid them
Chris@675 276
Chris@675 277 - Add "Export Audio Data" feature
Chris@675 278
Chris@675 279 - Show piano keyboard scale in note and time-value layers as well
Chris@675 280 as spectrogram, where vertical scale is log Hz; also show
Chris@675 281 numerical scale in note and region layers when not auto-aligned
Chris@675 282
Chris@675 283 - Speed up CSV file import and avoid showing crazily wide window
Chris@675 284 for CSV file format dialog when file has lots of columns
Chris@675 285
Chris@675 286 - Fix incorrectly saved window geometry when exiting from maximised
Chris@675 287 state
Chris@675 288
Chris@675 289 - Reduce number of timer wakeups when idle
Chris@675 290
Chris@675 291 - Add American English translation and make choice of translation
Chris@675 292 into a preference (defaulting to system locale)
Chris@675 293
Chris@675 294 - Permit installation to non-default location with Windows installer
Chris@675 295 build
Chris@714 296
Chris@608 297
Chris@1520 298 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.2 (July 2013) since the previous release 2.1:
Chris@608 299
Chris@608 300 - Build with support for hidpi ("retina") text on OS/X
Chris@675 301
Chris@608 302 - Fix very slow analysis when using Ogg or FLAC files decoded
Chris@608 303 via libsndfile
Chris@675 304
Chris@608 305 - Fix inaccurate scale auto-align between time-value layers and
Chris@608 306 others
Chris@675 307
Chris@608 308 - Fix failure to open files specified on command line (or via
Chris@608 309 Open With) on Windows
Chris@675 310
Chris@608 311 - Reset cyclical counters and switch back to navigate mode when
Chris@608 312 a new session is started
Chris@579 313
Chris@675 314
Chris@1520 315 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.1 (May 2013) since the previous release 2.0.1:
Chris@579 316
Chris@579 317 - Fix incorrect handling of FixedSampleRate outputs (Vamp SDK fix)
Chris@675 318
Chris@579 319 - Make it easier to see results from transforms that return a single point
Chris@675 320
Chris@579 321 - Make labelling clearer on time-value layers
Chris@675 322
Chris@579 323 - Add discrete-curve mode for time-value layers (for curves with gaps)
Chris@675 324
Chris@579 325 - Update code to build against Qt5
Chris@523 326
Chris@675 327
Chris@523 328 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.0.1 since the previous release 2.0:
Chris@523 329
Chris@523 330 - Fix incorrect samplerate in reading m4a files on OS/X
Chris@512 331
Chris@675 332
Chris@1520 333 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 2.0 (July 2012) since the previous release 1.9:
Chris@512 334
Chris@512 335 - Support 64-bit builds on OS/X (using CoreAudio instead of
Chris@512 336 obsolete QuickTime audio file reader)
Chris@512 337
Chris@512 338 - Simplify RDF reading and fix some bugs. Now requires Dataquay
Chris@512 339 (http://breakfastquay.com/dataquay/) rather than using Redland
Chris@512 340 directly. Release builds use Sord/Serd rather than Redland
Chris@512 341
Chris@512 342 - Add a fullscreen mode on the F11 key
Chris@471 343
Chris@675 344
Chris@1520 345 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.9 (Oct 2011) since the previous release 1.8:
Chris@471 346
Chris@471 347 - Add session templates; save session as template; apply template to
Chris@471 348 session
Chris@471 349
Chris@471 350 - Tidy up the file open logic so as to remove the dialog asking how
Chris@471 351 to open a file, where possible
Chris@471 352
Chris@471 353 - Various bug fixes.
Chris@394 354
Chris@675 355
Chris@1520 356 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.8 (Apr 2011) since the previous release 1.7.2:
Chris@394 357
Chris@394 358 - Sonic Visualiser now registers as a file type handler on OS/X,
Chris@394 359 providing better integration with the desktop generally (Dan Stowell)
Chris@394 360
Chris@394 361 - There is a new function to toggle all Time Rulers at once (key #)
Chris@394 362
Chris@407 363 - The CSV import dialog has been overhauled, allowing more flexible
Chris@407 364 selection of purpose for each column
Chris@407 365
Chris@394 366 - Text overlays are now easier to read on dark backgrounds
Chris@394 367
Chris@394 368 - Hidden layers are now ignored when exporting an image (Dan Stowell)
Chris@394 369
Chris@394 370 - A crash when starting a new session or exiting the application
Chris@394 371 after loading a session with saved alignment data has been fixed
Chris@394 372
Chris@394 373 - The duplication of right-button menu functions when multiple files
Chris@394 374 were loaded has been fixed
Chris@394 375
Chris@394 376 - The layer-add menu functions now have shortcuts (Dan Stowell)
Chris@394 377
Chris@394 378 - The codebase has been reorganised into libraries and a configure
Chris@394 379 step added. It should be easier to build and maintain on OS/X and
Chris@394 380 Linux than previously, although it won't make much difference on
Chris@394 381 Windows.
Chris@394 382
Chris@397 383 - A Czech translation is now included (thanks to Pavel Fric).
Chris@397 384
Chris@675 385
Chris@1520 386 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.7.2 (May 2010) since the previous release 1.7.1:
Chris@394 387
Chris@394 388 - The time-value layer now has an origin line and an option to
Chris@394 389 show derivatives (change from one point to the next) rather than
Chris@394 390 raw values
Chris@394 391
Chris@394 392 - A static initialiser race has been fixed, possibly fixing an
Chris@394 393 occasional crash on startup in Windows
Chris@394 394
Chris@394 395 - A crash when pressing Play straight after New Session has been
Chris@394 396 fixed
Chris@394 397
Chris@675 398
Chris@1520 399 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.7.1 (Oct 2009) since the previous release 1.7:
Chris@394 400
Chris@394 401 - The RDF importer does a better job of assigning labels to layers,
Chris@394 402 layers to panes, and values to labelled regions
Chris@394 403
Chris@394 404 - Interactive editing in the Text layer benefits from the same
Chris@394 405 improvements as made in 1.7 to Note and Region layers
Chris@394 406
Chris@394 407 - The layer data editor window has a text search feature
Chris@394 408
Chris@394 409 - The main window status bar now shows the last label to have passed
Chris@394 410 the playback position in the current layer, at the right end of the
Chris@394 411 status bar
Chris@394 412
Chris@394 413 - The Russian translation has been updated (thanks Alexandre)
Chris@394 414
Chris@675 415
Chris@1520 416 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.7 (Sep 2009) since the previous release 1.6:
Chris@394 417
Chris@394 418 - A new "Insert Item At Selection" function on the Edit menu
Chris@394 419 can be used to create Note and Region layer items whose time
Chris@394 420 extents correspond to the current selection(s)
Chris@394 421
Chris@394 422 - Interactively editing points in the Note and Region layers
Chris@394 423 now works much more smoothly
Chris@394 424
Chris@394 425 - SV can now import MIDI files that use SMPTE timecode for event
Chris@394 426 timing (importing MIDI files using with the more common
Chris@394 427 timebase-based timing was already supported)
Chris@394 428
Chris@394 429 - Time values throughout the display may optionally be shown in
Chris@394 430 seconds and frames at various frame rates
Chris@1520 431
Chris@394 432 - A crash on exit in Windows has been fixed
Chris@394 433
Chris@394 434 - A very unobtrusive user survey is now included
Chris@394 435
Chris@394 436 - Various other bug fixes.
Chris@394 437
Chris@675 438
Chris@1520 439 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.6 (Jun 2009) since the previous release 1.5:
Chris@394 440
Chris@394 441 - The Colour 3D Plot layer now supports logarithmic vertical
Chris@394 442 scale and linear interpolation options.
Chris@394 443
Chris@394 444 - A new colour scheme (High Gain) has been added for spectrogram
Chris@394 445 and Colour 3D Plot, which improves readability for some data.
Chris@394 446
Chris@394 447 - Further performance improvements have been made to Colour 3D
Chris@394 448 Plot.
Chris@394 449
Chris@394 450 - Various other bug fixes.
Chris@394 451
Chris@675 452
Chris@1520 453 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.5 (Mar 2009) since the previous release 1.4:
Chris@394 454
Chris@394 455 - You can now insert time instants, time values, and notes using
Chris@394 456 a MIDI device during playback. If a time value or note layer is
Chris@394 457 current it will be used for insertion (giving a value equal to
Chris@394 458 the pitch class, or the played note, respectively); otherwise an
Chris@394 459 existing or new time instants layer will be used just as it is
Chris@394 460 when inserting instants using the PC keyboard. Using a MIDI
Chris@394 461 device should give better timing than using the PC keyboard.
Chris@394 462
Chris@394 463 - There is a new Activity Log window with a (purely informative) list
Chris@394 464 of events and user interactions that happen while SV is running.
Chris@394 465
Chris@394 466 - The spectrogram has somewhat improved graphical scaling, and
Chris@394 467 this is now the default (being much faster than the 4x oversampled
Chris@394 468 method). The previous default is still available as a preference.
Chris@394 469
Chris@394 470 - Visualisation of very dense colour plots (such as spectrograms
Chris@394 471 calculated by plugins) is substantially faster in this release.
Chris@394 472
Chris@394 473 - Spectrogram display is now faster in many circumstances.
Chris@394 474
Chris@394 475 - Alignment using the MATCH plugin is faster on OS/X than before.
Chris@394 476
Chris@394 477 - SV will take into account RDF plugin descriptions, if available,
Chris@394 478 in order to make somewhat better decisions about display of plugin
Chris@394 479 outputs (for example, placing segmentation data into a layer with
Chris@394 480 segmentation plot type).
Chris@394 481
Chris@394 482 - You can now switch layers by clicking on the spare area at the left
Chris@394 483 end of the pane that is also used for the current pane indicator.
Chris@394 484
Chris@394 485 - The vertical black lines dividing segments in the time value
Chris@394 486 layer's segmentation plot style are now optional.
Chris@394 487
Chris@394 488 - Several widget layout bugs on OS/X have been fixed.
Chris@394 489
Chris@394 490 - Several serious crashing, deadlock, and data corruption bugs have
Chris@394 491 been fixed.
Chris@394 492
Chris@394 493
Chris@1520 494 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.4 (Dec 2008) since the previous release 1.3:
Chris@394 495
Chris@394 496 - SV now has a Region layer type, used for display of features with
Chris@394 497 durations. It also supports Vamp v2.0 plugins that provide durations
Chris@394 498 for features.
Chris@394 499
Chris@394 500 - Layer data can now be imported from RDF described using the Audio
Chris@394 501 Features Ontology, as well as from the existing text file types. SV
Chris@394 502 can also export annotation layer data to RDF/Turtle, although in a
Chris@394 503 somewhat simplistic manner at present.
Chris@394 504
Chris@394 505 - You can search for transforms by text in the new "Find a Transform"
Chris@394 506 dialog. This searches both installed plugins, and plugins that have
Chris@394 507 not been installed but that have descriptions available on the
Chris@394 508 semantic web.
Chris@394 509
Chris@394 510 - You can now zoom and scroll vertically in the time-value, note,
Chris@394 511 and colour 3d plot layers.
Chris@394 512
Chris@394 513 - Sonic Visualiser can now load sessions from uncompressed XML files
Chris@394 514 as well as its own compressed-XML .sv format. Files with extension
Chris@394 515 .xml that contain suitable session data will be loaded as sessions.
Chris@394 516 Note that .xml extension files still do not show up in the default
Chris@394 517 file load filter. This is intentional, as there may be any kind of
Chris@394 518 data in them -- if you want to load uncompressed session files from
Chris@394 519 XML, you need to know you're doing it.
Chris@394 520
Chris@394 521 - Several crashes and other bugs have been fixed.
Chris@394 522
Chris@675 523
Chris@1520 524 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.3 (Jul 2008) since the previous release 1.2:
Chris@394 525
Chris@394 526 - There is a new spreadsheet-style data viewer and editor for
Chris@394 527 viewing and editing the data in some types of annotation layer.
Chris@394 528
Chris@394 529 - Alignments are now saved to the session file.
Chris@394 530
Chris@394 531 - The spectrogram layer is usually somewhat faster than it was.
Chris@394 532
Chris@394 533 - You can now hold Shift while dragging to move an item, in order
Chris@394 534 to override the initial drag resistance introduced in 1.2.
Chris@394 535
Chris@394 536 - The gross mis-labelling of time lines in the ruler has been fixed.
Chris@394 537
Chris@394 538 - There is a new, somewhat provisional PulseAudio output driver.
Chris@394 539
Chris@394 540 - Several other bug fixes.
Chris@394 541
Chris@675 542
Chris@1520 543 Changes in Sonic Visualiser 1.2 (Feb 2008) since the previous release 1.0:
Chris@394 544
Chris@394 545 - SV now supports time-alignment of multiple performances of a work
Chris@394 546 loaded at the same time. This option is enabled when the MATCH Vamp
Chris@394 547 plugin is installed. When alignment is switched on and more than one
Chris@394 548 audio file is open, SV will assume that all open files are
Chris@394 549 differently timed performances of the same work, and will calculate
Chris@394 550 time alignments for them. Playback will then play only a single file
Chris@394 551 at a time, and the playback cursors in other files will track at the
Chris@394 552 varying speeds to try to ensure that each is at the same point in the
Chris@394 553 underlying score. This enables effective comparison of several such
Chris@394 554 files, as well as a meaningful way to switch from one performance to
Chris@394 555 another during playback (ensuring that the switch happens at the
Chris@394 556 correct point in the performance being switched to).
Chris@394 557
Chris@394 558 - There is a new Image layer, which can display images from the
Chris@394 559 local filesystem or retrieved via HTTP or FTP.
Chris@394 560
Chris@394 561 - A new measurement tool has been added. With the measurement tool
Chris@394 562 selected, dragging in a pane draws a rectangle labelled with the
Chris@394 563 scale values for its start and end corners and its size. You can
Chris@394 564 have any number of measurements present at once; they are associated
Chris@394 565 with the top layer, their scale values depend on the scale for that
Chris@394 566 layer, and they are only shown when that layer is at the top and the
Chris@394 567 measurement tool is active. Measurements are saved and reloaded in
Chris@394 568 the session file. Drawing measurements can be undone and redone, and
Chris@394 569 a measurement can be deleted by hitting Del when highlighted. Note
Chris@394 570 that the measurement tool shows the scale values associated with the
Chris@394 571 pixel positions of the mouse when dragging, not any values associated
Chris@394 572 with actual features present in the audio or its analysis (e.g. the
Chris@394 573 values are not rounded to the nearest spectrogram bin).
Chris@394 574
Chris@394 575 - You can double-click using the measurement tool in the spectrogram
Chris@394 576 to get an instant measurement rectangle for a feature. This is a
Chris@394 577 purely graphical feature that works by calculating the boundary of a
Chris@394 578 contiguous region of pixels "similar to" the one you double-clicked
Chris@394 579 on; it does not use audio analysis. Adjusting the gain and colour
Chris@394 580 scheme etc of the spectrogram will (by design) affect the
Chris@394 581 measurements obtained this way.
Chris@394 582
Chris@394 583 - The spectrum can now optionally show frequency estimates of peaks
Chris@394 584 aligned with a piano keyboard along the horizontal axis (this needs
Chris@394 585 some refinement).
Chris@394 586
Chris@394 587 - The harmonic cursor in the spectrogram has moved from the Select
Chris@394 588 tool to the Measurement tool. There is now a similar harmonic cursor
Chris@394 589 in the spectrum. Both of them show more information as text
Chris@394 590 alongside the cursor than previously.
Chris@394 591
Chris@394 592 - There is a new Erase tool for erasing individual points from an
Chris@394 593 editable layer.
Chris@394 594
Chris@394 595 - Several keyboard shortcuts have changed -- all of the Alt+key
Chris@394 596 shortcuts now either use Ctrl or a plain keypress with no modifier,
Chris@394 597 to avoid clashes with window manager shortcuts and to make them
Chris@394 598 easier to use and remember
Chris@394 599
Chris@394 600 - The playback controls are now in a Playback menu as well as the
Chris@394 601 toolbar.
Chris@394 602
Chris@394 603 - There is a new key and mouse control reference under Help (or press
Chris@394 604 F2).
Chris@394 605
Chris@394 606 - You can double-click on a pane in navigate mode to jump to a time.
Chris@394 607
Chris@394 608 - All of the single-colour layers (waveform, time values etc) now
Chris@394 609 allow you to define your own colours as well as using the built-in
Chris@394 610 set. The colour of a layer is now shown next to its name on the pane.
Chris@394 611
Chris@394 612 - When you add a new single-colour layer it will use a default colour
Chris@394 613 that is not yet in use in another layer (if there is one).
Chris@394 614
Chris@394 615 - Single-colour layers can now optionally have black backgrounds (with
Chris@394 616 a set of lighter colours in the default colour palette that use black
Chris@394 617 backgrounds by default).
Chris@394 618
Chris@394 619 - There's a new Printer colour scheme in the spectrogram with only a
Chris@394 620 small number of grey shades.
Chris@394 621
Chris@394 622 - Vertical zoom in a log-scaled spectrogram is much more intuitive;
Chris@394 623 it now leaves the point that was in the centre of the visible area in
Chris@394 624 the centre after zoom, instead of the point that was in the centre of
Chris@394 625 the linear range corresponding to the visible area.
Chris@394 626
Chris@394 627 - You can now turn a colour 3d plot layer upside down by clicking the
Chris@394 628 Invert Vertical Scale button.
Chris@394 629
Chris@394 630 - There's a new Layer Summary window which shows the panes and
Chris@394 631 layer data in a tree layout. This is very simplistic at the moment.
Chris@394 632
Chris@394 633 - Each pane now has an [X] button at its top left, which removes that
Chris@394 634 pane when clicked.
Chris@394 635
Chris@394 636 - There's a new Solo play mode toggle button; when active, only the
Chris@394 637 currently selected pane is played. This is also the default when
Chris@394 638 time alignment is in use.
Chris@394 639
Chris@394 640 - Rewind/ffwd now stay confined to the selection if Play Selection is
Chris@394 641 enabled; also, the rewind and ffwd "one step" buttons are now enabled
Chris@394 642 even if there is no time instants layer for them to align to (they
Chris@394 643 align to the time ruler instead and so jump in steps of a size
Chris@394 644 dependent on the zoom level).
Chris@394 645
Chris@394 646 - You can now export note layers to MIDI.
Chris@394 647
Chris@394 648 - MIDI note velocity is partially supported. Note velocity is
Chris@394 649 retained when importing and exporting MIDI and is used in playback,
Chris@394 650 but it is not yet shown in the display and cannot yet be edited.
Chris@394 651
Chris@394 652 - You can now drag-and-drop files (of whatever type) onto SV from
Chris@394 653 other programs such as file managers or web browsers.
Chris@394 654
Chris@394 655 - mp3 files (and Ogg, but they aren't supported on Windows at the
Chris@394 656 moment) are now decoded in a background thread so you can see the
Chris@394 657 start of the track without waiting for the rest to decode.
Chris@394 658
Chris@394 659 - Mac builds of SV can now load AAC/mp4 files and anything else
Chris@394 660 supported by QuickTime.
Chris@394 661
Chris@394 662 - There is now an option to resample audio files on import if they
Chris@394 663 don't match the samplerate of the first file loaded. By default this
Chris@394 664 is switched off, as it affects the visible waveform. The default
Chris@394 665 behaviour is unchanged (play at the wrong rate). There is still no
Chris@394 666 option to handle multiple rates "correctly" (i.e. by resampling
Chris@394 667 on playback and showing the waveforms at different resolutions
Chris@394 668 according to each one's underlying rate) and there probably never
Chris@394 669 will be.
Chris@394 670
Chris@394 671 - SV can now open .m3u playlist files, though it's a hazardous thing
Chris@394 672 to do as it simply loads all the files in the playlist at once.
Chris@394 673
Chris@394 674 - SV now has various options for how to number tapped time instants
Chris@394 675 (bar/beat, plain counter, time in seconds, tempo etc).
Chris@394 676
Chris@394 677 - The official builds use Qt 4.3, which fixes some nasty
Chris@394 678 bugs in the file dialog that the version 1.0 builds suffered from.
Chris@394 679
