[Consent form speech] Thank you for agreeing to take part in our study. [Experiment 1] [Launch Application] On the screen you see a blue triangle and a red token. With the mouse you can click and drag the red token and move it around the screen. When the red token is dragged into the triangle, the system will start generating a sequence of piano notes. The pattern of notes depends on where in the triangle the token is. In this first experiment, which will last [4/3] minutes, we simply ask you to move the token where ever in the triangle you wish, feel free to move the token right to the edge. [demonstrate pushing to edge] It is best not to move the token around too quickly to give yourself time to hear the pattern you are generating and to notice its characteristics. Then you can decided whether to stay or move somewhere else. If you move the token around continuously, the patterns will change so quickly that there will effectively be no pattern. Feel free to make comments about what you are hearing. If you come across a pattern that you particularly enjoy, press space-bar. Have you got any questions? [Build a FAQ - ] [Give participant headphones] [Time up] Thank you. We are now going to repeat this experiment but this time there will already be a background melody playing. When you bring the token into the triangle it will generate a second melody, and just like before the pattern of notes of that melody will be dependent on the position of the token. The background melody is of the lower register, and 'your' melody, that is, the one you are controlling with the token, will be the higher pitched one. When you hear a pattern that you like, press space-bar. We will repeat this experiment [4] times, each time the background melody will be different. Each experiment will last [3/4] minutes.
